46: 1,000 Days at Sea, “Future Yachts,” AquaDomi Houseboats
http://www.TheBoaters.TV Episode 46 – First up today, it’s the 1,000 Days at Sea Project.
Reid Stowe, a 55-year old professional adventurer, and his 24-year old girlfriend, Soanya Ahmad, are attempting to stay at sea until 2010, communicating with civilization solely via satellite phone.
The couple has been sailing aboard the 70-foot schooner “Anne” through the South Atlantic since April 2007.
Stowe and Ahmad call their mission “Mars Ocean Odyssey,” because they think the journey will provide valuable lessons for a manned flight to Mars.
Follow the 1,000 Days at Sea project through its website at http://www.1000days.net where you can read daily blog posts e-mailed in by their satellite phone.
Enjoy the discussion about this voyage over in the Sailing Anarchy forums:

Next up, it’s a Flashback to 1958: A private yacht for every family was just on the horizon.
In 1958, Arthur Radebaugh, in his syndicated Sunday comic strip “Closer than we Think,” gave readers of the Chicago Tribune a glimpse at the future of yachting with his design of “The Poor Man’s Yacht.”
The caption predicts that in “the world of tomorrow,” the family car might be used as the motive power for boats.
All the yachtsman-of-the-future would need to do is drive his car into the cradle of the new marine creation, allowing the automobile’s engine to run the boat.
You can find Arthur Radebaugh’s “Poor Man’s Yacht” sketch, and read more about “the futures that never were” at the Paleo-Future blog: http://paleo-future.blogspot.com
Finally today: Introducing the AquaDomi – The Houseboat of the Future?
AquaDomi houseboats are a modular system of floating houses that give the owner the possibility of creating his own house on the water, exactly the way he wants it.
The AquaDomi houseboat designs feature contemporary architecture equipped with luxury comforts, geared more towards aesthetic artistic structures on water with a homely feel.
Check-out the different architectural designs at the company’s website http://www.Aquadomi.dk

Cruising Around Catalina Island In Crappy Rented Boat
On Saturday April 12, 2008 myself (Jonathan Paula), Ezra Horne, and Joe Collesano took part in another Emerson College sponsored event – a free trip to Los Angeles’s Santa Catalina Island. In the need for some 15-horsepower fun, the three of us decided to rent a boat and cruise around the island, on the condition that we make a video of it later, post it to the internet, and make enough money from it to pay for the boat ride itself. This is the exciting video we filmed that sunny afternoon on the shores off Catalina island in the deep blue Pacific Ocean.
Starring:
Jonathan Paula (Editor)
Joe Collesano
Ezra Horne

SCW TV – Boating Safety – April 2004
Theres much more to that day on the lake than gassing up the boat and packing a picnic. We chatted with Sergeant Karen Swink with the DNRs Law Enforcement Education section, and Sergeant Donnie Pritcher with Marine Investigations and Education about the safety concerns that all boaters need to address.

South Carolina Wildlife TV is an idea that had floated around for several years. There were many potential stories ociated with SCDNR projects and outreach activities, and ultimately a plan bobbed to the surface in August of 2003. We had a clean slate from which to work. We decided the best approach would be something like a video version of South Carolina Wildlife magazine. So meetings were held, amused chuckles were traded and a format was chosen. We would build a show around two main stories, one field trip segment, and a short wrap-up piece that featured natural sounds and settings. We would provide one new show per month to SCETV. Most importantly, we would hit the road and river and forest and anywhere else we could find South Carolinas special places. At last count, our tally includes just over one hundred shooting locations, about seventy guests, dozens of drive-thru cheeseburgers, four hosts and one upside-down truck (don’t ask).
