I need a way to remember that some common boating rules. Like a phrase or something any ideas?

Pan Pan = A vessel is in trouble but no in immediate danger,
Securite = A Navigational safety message, such as weather

And a way to remember that:

Cardinal markers are:

North: 2 cones pointing up
South: 2 Cones pointing Down
East: 2 cones pointing away from each other
West: 2 cones pointing towards each other.

Any ideas?

FOr cardinal buoyage, think of a wine glass. West and Wine both start with W. East must be the opposite. North and south are self explanatory.

The day shape for vessels constrained by her draft is a black cylinder. Sort of looks like a can of "draft" beer.

Vessels meeting. Green to green, red to red in perfect safety come ahead. Refers to the side lights of the vessels.

Florida Boating License Question..?

I have recently got my hands on a very nice 14 foot 90 hp inboard jet boat.
Because I am under the age of 21 (and 18 for that matter) I was wondering if there was any additional laws prohibiting me from operating it in a public bay in the Bay County region of Florida. I have completed the Florida Boating License and Boat Safety Course and received my license. I already coast around in a 14 foot 40 hp outboard and was wondering if the jump up in power and type of motor would cause some legal complaints. Thx!

Maybe you need to go back and review what you learned in your Boating Safety Course. When you took it you should have learned the legal requirements for operating a boat.

You should have learned that anyone under 21 years of age is required to have completed the Boaters Safety Course and carry a photo ID as well as the Boating Safety Education ID Card.

Good Luck – Boat Safe!

SCW TV – Boating Safety – April 2004

Theres much more to that day on the lake than gassing up the boat and packing a picnic. We chatted with Sergeant Karen Swink with the DNRs Law Enforcement Education section, and Sergeant Donnie Pritcher with Marine Investigations and Education about the safety concerns that all boaters need to address.

South Carolina Wildlife TV is an idea that had floated around for several years. There were many potential stories ociated with SCDNR projects and outreach activities, and ultimately a plan bobbed to the surface in August of 2003. We had a clean slate from which to work. We decided the best approach would be something like a video version of South Carolina Wildlife magazine. So meetings were held, amused chuckles were traded and a format was chosen. We would build a show around two main stories, one field trip segment, and a short wrap-up piece that featured natural sounds and settings. We would provide one new show per month to SCETV. Most importantly, we would hit the road and river and forest and anywhere else we could find South Carolinas special places. At last count, our tally includes just over one hundred shooting locations, about seventy guests, dozens of drive-thru cheeseburgers, four hosts and one upside-down truck (don’t ask).

How confident are you that automakers can produce trucks that get 30 mpg w/out sacrificing safety and power?

towing capacity. A lot of farmers, welders, contractors, gardeners, etc rely on trucks as do people with boats and trailers to haul. The new standards today say the ave MPG for trucks needs to be 30 mpg by 2016, so will trucks me made of lighter materials and frames and have lower powered engines?

No Confidence.

Another government boondoggle that will cost taxpayers countless billions.

The Dems need to grease the skids of the financial markets (not bailout), but instead their mision is to save the earth. (I guess they forgot to consult with mega-polluters like China, India, and Russia regarding collaboration in this effort.)

The level of Dem naivete, as well as arrogance, is appalling. They are quickly driving this country into the ground as he mindless supporters cheer their praises.
